We got back from our UP trek at around 4 a.m. yesterday. We decided to drive straight through and save the extra dough. We picked L up and were on the road by around 7 p.m. L had a great time and so did we. She ran into a couple of Otto's kid's classmates! We drove up to Copper Harbor and saw the sights up that way for a couple of days, then drove back down to Houghton and checked out the sights in that area. We spent time in Calumet, our "almost" state capitol, and Laurium, site of a 13,000 sq. ft.-of-living-space mansion. It was home of one of the copper mining millionaires. We took a self-guided tour through it. It is now a B & B. We also learned A LOT about the copper mining industry and its heyday. We also saw a number of lighthouses and a number of BEAUTIFUL churches. We took lots of pics, of course! G stayed home with the menagerie and had his first week of classes. He decided he is DEFINITELY not a "solitary man." He missed having us to talk "at"! Our critters were all glad to see us; especially the puppies! We had a nice trip, but it's always great to be back home!
